Very loud chirping coming from my rear end.

2001 honda s2000
After sitting over night I got in it to go to work, didn't even get to the end of the block when this loud chirping started, I figured it was brakes at first but a little trial and error on the way home, noise is going with the rear end, in neutral, no brakes applied, just looking for suggestions before I go digging in to it.

if its

- rear end
- in neutral or gear
- no brakes and not your rears worn to indicator tabs(which can chirp with no brakes)
- chirping, not whirring

likely wheel bearing, if its more like a whirring chirp with a low undertone it could be the diff

Slightly different, so may not be helpful, but mine was chirping as well. With or without brakes applied, accelerating or decelerating, eventually replaced the front brake pads and it went away.

I really noticed it when driving next to a concrete barrier.

You didn't mention if applying the brakes changes the noise at all. Brakes can squeak when they are not applied. Usually in this scenario hitting the brakes makes the noise go away or change.

If applying brakes changes it, it likely IS the brakes.

"Very loud chirping coming from my rear end."

There's medication for this problem.

I'm sorry, the Devil made me do it. ;)

As for real problem: I'd be sure it isn't the brakes, the low-pad warning metal strip being slightly applied. Jack-up rear end. Rotate each wheel, listen for sound & feel for roughness.

Good luck! :)

Does the sound change if you take a left or right turn?
I got the same sound shortly after i bought my S.
The noise didnt appear immediately i had do drive for about 5 minutes and then it started and got worse.
Does the sound change with speed?

I had to replace my wheel bearing and the sound was gone!
