Vtec not as loud as it use to

For a while I've noticed my vtec isnt kicking in like it use to. Before, as soon as I would hit vtec you would get that butt kick and the vtec sound was noticeable and now my car feels like a prius it doesn't give me that kick anymore and vtec just doesn't POP like it use to. It's just quiet and I honestly don't feel a performance difference when in vtec. What could be wrong? My v tec solenoid? I know it's not just in my head. I know not enough oil pressure can make vtec act up but what about too much oil? I may have added a bit too much on my last oil top off. I also made a solenoid gasket a while back because that infamous vtec gasket that you can't buy went made so I made one and I believe some of that gasket paper is now in the vtec solenoid, could that be it?

Lets see if I've got this right. Your vtec is not working anymore, and you are pretty sure the component that controls vtec engagement is contaminated with foriegn material, and you are asking us what could possibly be causing your vtec issues because you can't imagine what could be wrong?

Even if someone had no idea what vtec was they could guess the issue.

Remove solenoid, clean debris screen, reinstall.

No my vtec is still there and working its just not as loud and doesn't give that "kick" anymore. If I removed my v tec solenoid is the oil in my engine going to spill out or will the solenoid just come off?

partially clogged?

A little oil will seep out but not a ton when you remove the solenoid. How much oil do you overfill? Unless you put a few quarts over I doubt that is causing your issue
