Default Walbro 255 + OEM Sock

So i just got around to replacing my fuel pump with a Walbro 255 and installed a new OEM sock filter. Everything seemed fine until the car wouldn't start in a car park and left me stranded.

Thinking i did something to the float as i still had 2 bars left, i suspected i was out of fuel as the engine had a little spark to it at first then nothing.

I was right, all it needed was a bit of fuel but after filling up.

I worked out i still had 1/5 left in the tank. My float is correct. The new filter / sock isn't picking up the fuel.
Am i meant to angle the sock downwards or something? Any help appreciated.

Thanks.

Did you use the stock pump/filter assembly/housing?
