Weird issue
 

Background, 2002 256k miles 2005 05 ecu swapped ive put on 40k on the motor. I went to drive my car I go to hit VTEC the car buckles then takes off like normal. I go to hit VTEC again for a little burst then cruising in 6th the engine cuts off. I replaced the MAP with a factory part last year, I wonder if that or the VTEC switch is acting up. It is seeping a tiny bit of oil, but cleaning that out didn't let the car restart, unplugging the map sensor trying to start the car then plugging it back in did get the car restarted. Weirdest thing ever owning this car 12 years.

I just drove it around some more. No issues, no check engine lights, nothing accelerates into VTEC like normal. Weird.

Even a new map sensor with some miles will benefit from the “map whack”.

While lightly revving the throttle from under the hood, LIGHTLY tap on the map with the plastic end of a small screwdriver. Rapidly, 4x per second. Do it for 10 seconds.

Mine acted up bad around 35k miles, did the map whack then.

Im now at 160k, and no issues since.

Thanks. I did tap it with my key while I was plugging and unplugging stuff. That may have done the trick, it does run a bit smoother.

Happened again, I'm convinced it's location dependent. It happened in the same exact place in town. Can radio frequencies or electronic interference mess with the immobilizer? After pulling over, I removed and re-inserted the key, and the car fired right up. Can't you get in trouble for having electronic jamming devices?

Could it be a crank trigger issue? So far no CELs.

The issue has not happened again since.

Even when passing "that" particular area? It could be a coincidence?

Happened again. Car just turned off pulling up to a light, after 5 min it fired right up. Im beginning to think its the 05 ecu. It came from IDK where. The person who did the swap sold it to me along with the transmission. Considering how many issues I had to fix along with the cracked tailshaft I had to replace to stop it leaking. I wouldn't put it past him.
