Default What am I hearing??

RPM dependent whine traced to the bottom front of the engine above the drain bolt around where the pan meets the block. Video is around 2000RPM

Just tensioner, but then I got off topic with this noise and it was no longer just TCT stuff so I started this thread.

Have you tried running the engine without the accessory belt?

Yes, as well as did a smoke test on vac lines. Negative on both...

A big WAG... but it does sound like chain. Timing or oil pump. Or both.

Searched through my videos and it was there before I touched anything on the car. And TCT didn’t need replacing, it was preliminary, so it’s anyones guess. I bought an Innovative motorsports oil pressure/temp gauge so I will be able to see how the pump is working before I tear into it. Not sure why the chain would be making this noise at the bottom end... Even the oil pump chain guide allegedly makes a ticking/rattling noise when worn, but have yet to read a post saying it whines (with the exception of over-tension). UGH.

Sure sound is not coming from the pilot or throw out bearing? Throw out bearing would come and go based on clutch being depressed, pilot bearing if going out would make constant noise. Seems to be more isolated to front part of engine in vid, but how does it sound further back by trans?

Didn’t hear it as much at bell housing, I’ll give it another shot with the screwdriver in that little wedge.
