Default Wiper cowl/windshield gap normal?

Hi guys,

When cleaning the area below the wiper cowl (where the wiper motor and cabin filter sit), I noticed that when reinstalling, there is a small gap between the cowl and the windshield. I pressed down all the pins into the slots and it sits secure. Just not tight or flush to the glass. The gap is maybe a few mm to being tight on a few spots. Is that normal? Or is that a problem for the way the water is supposed to run off?

I wondered if it has to sit tight and flush in order for the way water runs down during rain, or was it not designed to be a tight fit? There is a small foam lining on the backside of the cowl near the edge where it meets the windshield that looks original.

I have some moist in the cabin, and while I never found a thread that mentions this area as a problem Im just wondering if I can let it the way it is now, or that I have to do something about it to fill or eliminate the small gap?

Lastly, on the backside of the cowl (where it rests on the cars metal body/frame, there are some foam strips that are a bit worn off at some places and wondering if they have a function for water not to enter or just to eliminate vibrations? It seems not to be a tight sealing if I look to where this strips are situated and the cowl itself is half open on the top for air to go in and out as well by its design.

Let me know! Thanks for info!

Had my windshield replaced over summer. Inspection afterwards I noticed the same gap, also wondered if normal. Searching threads here found several others asking same thing.

So either its normal, or its a common anomaly. If there is a fix, I didn't find it searching.

Lets see what others report here...

my AP2 did this after a windshield replacement. However, my AP1 did not...could be the installer technique?

Did any of you get problems due to the gap?
Can this gap give any problems for the water that runs down the windscreen? Or does it just drain via the compartment underneath the wiper cowl onto the ground? Is it just a visual thing?
Anybody?

Do you have a photo of this gap, on your S2000? I can try to take a photo of my AP2, later today --- for comparison.

Where my fingers are I pressed it to the glass. So the gap is a few mm I think. From your pic I couldnt see if you have a gap. Can you compare to mine?

Do you or anybody know how I can get the cowl to look black again? You can see it got a bit greyisch. Some sillicone spray makes it black ut only for a little while. Any tips products?

The fit between windshield and rubber is tighter, on my car. Maybe 1mm or less. No water leak issues.

As for the rubber/vinyl --- I've been using Mother's VLR (Vinyl, Leather, and Rubber) treatment. Seems to keep color black.

I use Carpro DLux on all plastic trim, including the cowl. I removed mine and put 2 coats on this piece and it looks great.

It definitely darkens up the plastic and will last at least a year.
