Default Won't start No Dash lights

Hi Everyone,

wanted to start my S2000 this morning and top up the fuel before putting it away for the winter.

Got in and all the lights working on the dash. Hit the start button and everything went dead.
Checked the battery thinking it was dead but it was still ok. New battery this summer from Honda.

No clinking noise. Nothing.

I took off both the battery leads to check and looked ok.
Hooked both back up and the dash lights and buzzer were working again.

Went to hit the start button and same thing everything completely shut off.

Any ideas what I should be checking.

Thank you
Paul

Have you got a voltmeter Paul ?, check the voltage on the battery, might be enough to turn on the dash lights but not enough to turn the starter. New batteries can run down just like old ones. If the battery is good then start checking fuses. If you don't have a voltmeter then try starting the car with jumper cables off another vehicle, if it starts up then it's the battery for sure. Terminal posts and cable ends may need cleaning too, to make a cleaner connection. Just things to check.

Hi Guys,

I have checked the battery and it is ok. The terminals are fine.

No clicking noise like you would normally expect with a low battery.

The odd thing is if I disconnect the battery again all the lights and buzzer work again.

It's when I hit the start button that I get everything shutting down.
No lights in the cabin no lights on the dash.
Could it be the selanoid on the starter that is locking up some how ?

What's the voltage of the battery. I'm betting on a dead battery. If you've not driven it in a couple of weeks it's probably dead.

You checked the battery and its ok? How did you check it?

A near dead batt when you try to start, the load from starter will pull the voltage down to nothing...

Hi guys,

12.7 volts according to my meter.

I had the car running on Thursday afternoon for about 20 minutes in the driveway.

Why would all of the lights, everything stay off after I hit the start button and won't come back on until I remove the positive cable from the battery ?
As soon as I remove both cables on the battery the lights and everything come back like normal and I can lock the doors.

Had low batteries on other cars before and usually clicks and sometimes won't start but never stayed completely dead.

See what you can gleen from these two threads. I was thinking that there was a starter relay; but apparently not.

Hi Everyone,

just had my car taken in last week to the Honda dealer to check out the no start issue I had.

It turns out battery was fine. Starter is fine.

What is was a building up of corrosion between the positive cable and the aftermarket battery clamp.

It was difficult to see without undoing the wires from the clamp.

The corrosion prevented the sufficient power from getting to the starter.
Easy and cheap fix.

Thanks to all of you who had helped on this.

Paul
