I’ve owned several Honda's with well over 100k miles and have never had a CEL light, yet in the past I’ve read on this forum, and others, where S2000’s CEL lights are a concern. If I’m right with my observations could it be due to mods or aggressive driving that lead to early failures?
I get rid of my cars, all Hondas, at 100,000 miles. My experience has been that something always lights up about then and it's usually a smog issue. Also, the radio/stereo seems to start crackling around that time.

The Honda is the first car we have kept until 100,000 miles. Had we found one with lower mileage for a decent price we would have purchased it instead of the Porsche. We're not getting rid of the Honda, and we'd still be open to updating it if a good deal came around. We do know a guy whose thinking of selling his 2005 with about 35 K on it. He knows we are interested.

I don't mind routine car maintenance, but am not a fan of unexpected and often inconvenient car repairs. I don't suppose anyone is.

See with my Mercedes I just make that smoothie out of hundred dollar bills and it can fix anything.

Today's engines with today's lubs should easily allow the engines to last 250,000 miles. In the rust belt, its other things that limit the life of the vehicles. In some cases, expensive time belt changes, etc. might be called for but its still just routine maintenance that should be followed.

Rick is quite good at doing maintenance (or having it done) and not being one who waits until something on a vehicle is broken to replace it. Cars do last longer. Heck my son had darn near 230K+ on a Chrysler Sebring when he traded that it. It still ran pretty well but it was tired.

We were off and about in the Honda today. 47 degrees and we headed to the Cape to find seals. (see weekend and photo thread, we found them). That car, even top up, makes a road trip better, even if just a day trip. Car ran well. We'll see if that check engine light comes back on. Maybe Levi was right and the car does not like winter weather.

Well, Levi might be right. The S2000 might not like winter. When it was really cold, Rick let the car idle/warm up. It does have a slightly rough idle, maybe the plugs were fouling? He's not been letting the car warm up for so long, and the check engine light has not come back on. We will see....

Time to go out on the highway and run it up to 9K RPM in third gear and hold it there for a minute.

I'm not suggesting this....he'd try it, BUT, we have an AP2.... 8K....you know how it is with the "lesser" models.
