Default The +1's new car...

The +1 is getting ready to trade in his BMW convertible on a four-door sedan to have a bigger back seat for the kids. We've been looking at a lot of cars online, but haven't decided yet which to get. He may go with the BMW 3 Series - would rather stay below $40K. What else should he seriously consider? Thanks.

Inifinity G35 makes nice vibes.....also available in the X version.

Actually, I also saw a recent article wherein the Toyota Avalon came in #1 for interior space, handling, & overall value. Surprising....but might be worth a look

The Audi S4 is worth a drive, too! And their all-wheel drive is one of the best. The standard 1.8 liter turbocharged engine is both super quick and economical. But I like Gore's message, so I'd go for the Prius or one of the spirited luxury hybrids like maybe a Lexus GS450h!

I don't think so. The S4 comes with a 4.2 liter V8 and starts at 47.5K. That's with no options whatsoever. Quattro is standard with it. Figure another 1K to 2K in options.

Now, the A4 starts somewhat less and starts with a 2.0 liter turbo. I'd lean away from an Audi unless leasing.

Can you develop the question more?
Is the goal a high end luxury car just under $40k or is something less pricey in say the high $20' an option?
Are there brand loyalty issues we should be aware of?
Are there special features it must have?

Sure the choices tossed out here so far are resonable options, but not everybody wants/needs a luxury car.

If ya want a big back seat, this is one of the biggest out there, in a car that is clearly not some huge land yatch.

[QUOTE=SheDrivesIt,Feb 26 2007, 11:19 AM] I don't think so.

^ Not really...just need a good car at or under $40K - combination of appearance, performance and reliability. We haven't been to see any in person yet. Just thought I'd throw out the question to any of you who know something about more recent four-door sedans. I haven't driven one since I sold my Mercedes six years ago. The last sedan the +1 had was an Accord.

If he wants to stay young!! I say a Subaru STI or Mitsubishi EVO a combination rocket and family car. Did I mention great drivers in the snow?

I'm extremely impressed with the new Altima, you have got to see the back seat to believe it!
And although I have not test driven the new hybred version, they do have it.
