Default '62 Paris Auto Show

I was digging through some old B&Ws to send some photos of the Jag E-type (XKE) to a fellow I met up north this summer who still owned his original one. I had forgotten just how popular a car show was back in those days until I saw this picture.

Here's one of the shots of the E-type. It was on a revolving stage and I probably stood by it for a full hour. It was clearly the hit of the show.

Dave,

Thanks for reminding me of how different it used to be with new car introductions, and the surrounding mystery involved.

It takes me back to being a kid sitting on my front porch in Queens, NYC just one house off of a busy two lane north south thorough fare watching the cars go by playing "That's my Car" with my child hood friend. The game was seeing a cool car and saying "thats my car" first and then have to identify it by year make and model and how you could distinguish it as such. (I.E. that tail lights from one year to the next, etc).

Or the excitement that the Chrysler Turbine car generated at the 1964 Worlds Fair in NYC.

Thanks.

My photos of the '63 NY Auto Show indicate that the crowds were smaller, but the XKE was still a head-turner. Other interesting cars were Mercedes 300SLR, Penske's Zerex Special, Ferrari GTO, race-dirty Cobra, Rover gas-turbine, etc.

You mention "up north" - where? I was born and grew up in Onaway, went to Michigan Tech in Houghton. I remember going through Jackson on US27 before the interstates.

Those are nice pictures of a beautiful time Dave.
Notice no T shirts or baseball caps, the men wearing suits or sport coats and most of them wearing a tie, the whole affair appears more sumptuous because of this, and then there's the Jag...

Dave, do you have any pictures of the Healeys from those shows and time period. I like to look at them all together, since mine is in pieces.

Cool...I was living in Paris in 1962, but too young to be into cars. Where exactly was the show held?

Good observation. It was a more dignified era in many ways.

I remember when I was a young kid I could name and recognize every model of every (US made) manufacturer.

Damn try that now
