Default Airport Mess

In don't know about other airports but Detroit is a mess. My daughter's plane to FL left at 8:45 but she was not on it. We dropped her off at departures one hour before she was to leave. She called us two hours later and said she was still in line waiting for luggage check in! The airport is code orange and cops were everywhere. Safety first but it's frustrating. Even if we'd have gotten there two hours before, she still wouldn't have made it on.

I imagine that would explain why they were recommending you get to the airport 3 hours before the flight.

I'm very glad I'm not planning any travel by air.

Wasn't the Detroit airport the destination of the plane that a terrorist tried to blow up on Christmas day? Any time something like that happens, all the airports tend to tighten security which only makes holiday congestion that much worse. I would expect this was especially true up your way, Dave.

Check the Florida forum. That's sub zero's regular flight the high jacker was on, he flew it the day before. He just missed the other guy, he went out on the plane ahead of him but they had to haul an angry Frenchman off his.

I hate to say it, but this is the typical knee-jerk reaction of the TSA that accomplishes nothing. (Close the barn door after the horses escape) It is intended to make the traveling public feel "secure," but we all know that a motivated terrorist could still carry out an attack if they want to.

Edit: See the comments from a blog spot for frequent fliers about this fiasco: Flying With Fish

I particularly like this comment:
Blackbag everyone before entering the aircraft. Once seated you will be secured to the seat using hand and leg shackles. That’ll definitely work.

I was really glad I flew home on Christmas eve and missed all this crap. They have been showing LAX and the huge lines there, too. I flew out of John Wayne in Santa Ana and I guess it's not as bad.

She still would have missed her flight. She just called. It took her 3 hours to check in her bags!! She said the security check portion took five minutes. And, she said the customer service people were all VERY rude to top things off. She now has another 5 hour wait to get her new flight.

In NY it's common knowledge that it will take 4 hrs from arriving at the door of the airport terminal to boarding the plane---no matter what destination.

I'm surprised there wasn't more of an effort to get the word out to you.
It was all over the news here.
