What's odd is, if I drive an automatic any length of time, I find myself holding then shift knob and hunting for that left pedal. Esp coming to stops and in traffic.

I feel a sort of lack of control, in most automatic transmission cars.

Me too and I don't know what to do with my left foot and right hand. My left leg sometimes falls asleep.

I started reading an article about the new Supra and in the first paragraph it stated that a manual wouldn’t be offered lost interest right there.
I’ve never driven a flappy paddle shift sports car but I’m guessing that it wouldn’t be something I would prefer over a floor mounted shifter.

The person who invented paddle shifters never had arthritis in his thumbs/fingers. If someone gave me a car with that in it, I would have to give it back.

If I trade in my 235i early it will be for an automatic. Three years in and I'm still fine with the manual, but I'd probably be happier with an automatic. If I get a pick-up truck for towing, I may get rid of the BMW all together.

oh come on Dave.
They were designed in racing with dual clutch transmissions paddle shifts take under a tenth of a second.
obviously a huge advantage over rowing the gears.
then some guy in marketing realized, "hey we can do that with our automatic transmissions like race cars do..."
ironically they all have a automatic mode so you wouldn't have to give it back.

Hopefully, Rick will have the stick shift option as long as he wants it. Paddle shifters would not work for him either. Right arm just doesn't work well and the position required to keep it (the arm) on the wheel to use paddle shifters is likely a "no go" for him.
