Almost 2,000 miles and no S sightings
We have driven almost two thousand miles since we left home last Saturday on our road trip. We saw one Sebring in Leesburg, VA (about thirty miles from our house) we have not seen another S since then.
On our trip, we have gotten a lot of "strange and/or admiring" glances and an occasional "what is it" while gasing it up. But, I for one love the fact that unlike Z-3's or Boxsters, one does not get the impression that some dealer is giving the cars away because it seems like those others are a dime a dozen on the road.

Just last week I was asked "What is it?" and "Is it new?" It's a 2000. Gotta love that!
That said, my wife and I have a contest on the weekends to see whether we see more S2000's or Boxsters. Usually there are more Boxsters...usually. The record is 13 Boxsters to 9 S2000's.

This week I drove my Suzuka after 2 weeks of not driving it, due to vacation and needing my van to stock up for vacation. The first day back from vacation I drove my '98 Odyssey van and saw TWO Suzuka S2000s! Ever since then I've not seen one in any color. I can go a month without seeing any but then I'll see 2 in one day.
I do and don't like it when I get asked, "What is it?" I like it better when someone starts telling me about it, like it is fast and the perfect car, and how they admire it. I don't like to have to educate ignorant people about it, unless I can take them for a ride, like I did my pedicure lady, to really get my point home.

There are a couple of S2000's around town, seen infrequently. I still get inquisitive looks and an occasional question... especially at the gas station. (I think the NFR color would attract attention if it was on a Gremlin )
I do like the 'rarity' of the "S", and I think it is at least partially because the l'il Honda is so much less civilized (which is why it is so damn much fun to drive ) than the other roadsters on the market.
The "S" also seems to have less 'snob' appeal (an S2000 in the driveway doesn't make the same social 'statement' as a Z-3, or a Porsche..... and I, for one, like that). Because there are so few on the road, relative to those other marques, they do tend to attract a LOT of attention.
I'm still surprised by the inquisitiveness, and the questions, because usually I'm simply having too much fun with the car

Sometimes I can go for weeks without seeing another one, and sometimes I see three or four in one day. I can't explain it either.
I don't often get asked "What is it". I think that around here people don't much pay attention to little sportscars, they're too involved in their suvs.
I too like the fact that there aren't many around.

I went to the bank last week and when I came out to the car, a guy asked me if the S2000 was a Suzuki. I have Rick's body and wheel badges. I laughed and told him it was a Honda. He was surprised to hear that Honda made "such a beautiful car".

Like Patty, I love it when someone who already knows a thing or two about the car shows interest. Among sports car owners in central Massachusetts, there is generally respect for good cars and often a good chat at a gas station or stoplight. The S is not what I'd call a common sighting around here -- compared with Boxsters or Miatas. I'd say it's in the same league (frequency-wise) as MR2 sightings.

The "S" badges must have really confused him. The Honda "H" is confusing enough to most people, when they ask: "What is it?"
