This would be the age group that may have vets from that era. Yeah, were old but so are you.
I spent my 4 years on isolated radar sites waitng to track Soviet bombers coming over the north pole. . Any of you have that experience?
If not, tell me yours.

I was entrusted to track for the unusual on the streets of Paris for three years in the early 60s. It was probably not nearly as exciting as watching for Russians.
As I recall there was a couple nights I had to stay at the AF base because a couple Russian fishing boats were heading to Cuba.

I'm an Air Force Vet, an Air Force Brat, and a Navy retiree. My Air Force time was spent in the late 60s in sunny California keeping spy satellites on their intended path.
My dad, however, was assigned to an AC&W facility in Cross City, Florida in 1958/59 where I attended 6th grade. Living in a small southern town in the 50s was a real eye opener for a kid used to the suburbs of places like Los Angeles and St. Louis, MO.
Then during the Cuban missile crisis while living at Vandenberg AFB, I witnessed the preparation to what I thought was going to be the end of civilization. We dependents were ordered to prepare for evacuation from what surely would have been a Soviet target while fathers and husbands spent days on end in the ICBM missile silos waiting on the word to launch.

I don't know what AC & W squadrons are. My dad is now 80. He was in the Air Force and flew F 86s in Korea.
