In this Forum, would it be appropriate to have your prescription ground into your windshield?

Ha, good one Palmateer. That'd stop the young guys from joy riding your car too.

GregC21, believe me, I'm not trying to hijack your thread, but I think we are having good multiple conversations here, all about windows.

dlq04, I so agree with you, all my vehicles carry full glass coverage with no deductible. If I can locate a good installer and can verify they are working with Honda OEM glass, I would be more than happy to take a drive to get it done. Because I have not spent much energy looking into this in my area, I have yet to locate a vendor that gives me a good feeling.

Smokee, is there any value in me getting the window repaired at this point? The reason I ask is because the injury was more than a year ago. I have washed the window often and have coated it with Rain-X several times. Would this make the cracks "too dirty" and make this repair sort of a waste.

I get my windshield dings repaired for two reasons:

1. Keep large cracks from forming from the ding. I've parked a car in the morning, in the afternoon there was a crack the entire length of the windshield. That taught me to get the car in as soon as possible.

2. It makes the ding less visible and annoying although it doesn't always go away completely.

If you've gone a year then maybe your ding won't cause any problems. They led me to believe that the dirt issue was only that they couldn't get the dirt out and it would be visible, not that they still couldn't repair it.

I replaced mine at about 75k due to an enormous amount of pitting. I got a good price ($360? if I remember right) from a local Safelite dealer but it was probably the worst work I've ever had performed on a car. It took two months to get it resolved, and that's only because I gave up trying to get them to replace the boogered up window rubber. The two month delay was to figure out how to attach the rear view mirror.

I had mine replaced due to sand storm pitting at 18,960 miles. List price for the windshield was $392.88, $68.10 for the molding and $39.00 for labor for a total of $488.01. I paid $50 and Allstate Insurance picked up the rest. It has been fine and I'm now at about 37,000 miles.

I asked for, and got, a Honda windshield rather than any other brand.

A while back there was a discussion about the Honda OEM windshield vs. other brands such as PPG. Some felt that the PPG was harder.

Has anyone noticed and difference? Is the PPG more resistant to pitting?
