Every manufacturer has had dozens of recalls over the years, even Honda. I would not hesitate to buy a Toyota product just based on the current run of recalls. I'd just take care of the recall and move on.
Believe me I know full well virtually all manufacturers experience recalls, however, Toyota has clearly had a rash of them, and most car companies do not find themselves in federal court when they announce recalls, but Toyota has, therefore, my mind concludes some of the stuff they are going through now is indeed serious, and for sure calls into question the so called Toyota quality and reliability.

Opinions vary as you know, I for one though would absolutely hesitate to lay down hard earned money for a Toyota or Lexus.

I tend to agree. My first Japanese car was a Toyota and I loved it and bought a second. I've encouraged many people to buy Toyota's over the years. But looking at not only the rash of recalls but the types and when the issues started, I would be hard pressed to recommend them today. These issues go back years and it's clear in their rush to dominate the world they got off course in quality control...... the very thing that made them. I think many still cling to their past experiences with them which put them at the top.

Well I would rather take my chances with Toyota than with Ford, GM etc. For example, I leased a new Mustang in 2000 and within a few months had to take it back to the dealer for a clunking sound. I thought it was the driveshaft, having seen a new Mustang on a flatbed with the driveshaft hanging down, and sure enough, mine was getting ready to do the same. You never heard of a recall, but I'll bet a lot of owners had the same problem.

While I agree with you, you're talking about choosing the lesser of three evils. I personally wouldn't consider any of them until I saw an established track record of quality and reliability.

Why choose the lesser of three evils when there are so many better choices around?
