I think we will be headed to NC. Priorities are warmer climate, culture, health care, lower taxes.

I think weather would be a priority for me. I would like to be able to do the snowbird thing Vermont in summer/fall and somewhere warm like Florida for the rest of the year.

Jim, would that be a winter home location, or are you looking for a one location compromise?

That's the direction I'm leaning towards, but I'm thinkinng that I might just rent in Florida or some other warm place for a couple of months a year.

I think that's what anyone should do first no matter what location they are considering. I could see you flat boat fishing. There are LOTS of people from Michigan who go to FL and the ones we know have with mixed results - most just like snow birding, some eventually move there, and some who moved there eventually moved back.

I think we're stuck in MA. I can't leave grandkids at this point, but since I can't retire yet, that works out.

I have two sisters in SC. I visited there last fall. NO desire at this point to head that way. Too flat, and way too hot in summer.

Ideally, if I could escape a couple months of winter I'd be happy with that. Not sure the budget will allow that to happen.

Rick's brother and sister in law moved to FL and loved it there. His brother passed away last November, and his sister in law is moving back to MA. I'm sure other folks have gone this route too.

She has family here and none in FL. Though they had a large circle of friends and activities, she did not want to stay in FL after my brother in law passed.

She may go back for some time during the winter months. Her thought was that it is easier to rent a place in FL for a few months, than it is to find a rental in MA (not far from Cape Cod) in the summer.

Makes sense to me.

Not for me. I'd rather live in the garage but some love it.
