Two years ago I was at the west end of the Massachusetts Turnpike on a long decent down hill and got zapped by a MA state trooper doing 88. When he stopped me, he noticed my Vietnam veteran's plates from IL. He asked me when I was in Vietnam. I told him. He said he was going to give me a ticket for speeding at 80 mph. When I got the ticket, I noticed that there was a 10% VETERAN'S DISCOUNT ON THE FINE!

Really?????? A discount on a fine?????

20 mph or over 80mph is reckless driving in VA. You COULD go to jail for doing over 80 if there are other factors involved. Generally you contribute to the Commonwealth's general fund.

And Mississippi is #2 in something other than obesity. Not surprised MS is fairly lenient on reckless driving. Too bad, actually. Yet another list we don't need to be at or near the top of. Working on it.

We do have our speed traps, though. But in most counties, sheriffs and their deputies are not allowed to use radar. Only Highway Patrol and municipal police can do so. This dates back to a scandal years ago involving county JPs kicking back part of the fines they collected to local deputies.
