I'm with you Dave. My cell won't even ring inside the house, although it will take a message. Have to go out front or in back yard for best reception. Things would change for the better if the two story house next door were to burn down....

There are a number of services which offer local programming and limited cable for ~$30-50/mon. YouTube, Amazon, Hulu and Sling to name a few. I have a significant issue with Over The Air reception. Digital, unlike analog signals, are either a go or no go, versus analog (no longer used for broadcast) which can give you are workable, but not great signal.

We have Comcast at the beach. Their pricing is a bit odd, 25Mb bandwidth with no cable is ~$60, 100+Mb with "extended basic cable" is ~$83. It makes no sense to go low speed, in our location. At home we have Verizon FIOS. As I can't do OTA at home (obstructions), I get a bill of ~$160 for 80Mb and a big cable package. The prices are almost the same from Comcast to Verizon, but the quality of the video and datastream are better with fiber to the home.

I checked mine and I have the same speed. Who remembers when you used to have to pay for long distance calls? Who remembers only having limited calls on your cell phone plan, and how expensive the other plans were? Who remembers how horrible dial up and DSL internet speeds were? Hell, I even remember party lines! My sister had a place in NH, She didn't bother with a phone. A general store down the street had a pay phone. Pick it up and tell the operator who you wanted to call. This was early 80's. Who remembers having only basic channels, and then UHF came along.?

We must admit, we get a lot more bang for the buck when it comes to TV and phones these days. Maybe we should just pay the bills. admit we enjoy the various options and not be a I'm not saying one should not be aware of what they are spending each month. However, what we spend on cable, internet and other streaming services, can be calculated into the entertainment budget, just like eating out. I do wish Comcast had an "a la carte" plan, but until then, we'll pay the bill and stay on our toes when there are price increases.
