Actually I did not make it shopping until today. OMG, I can't imagine its as "dead" in your area. I went to three jewelry stores - two were dead. I went to a mall and all the major stores except Penny's had closed. I did find a few items for the wife in one of the remaining speciality stores, that used to be twice the size. I started to go to one the few remaining department stores at a strip mall but it was so busy I didn't bother to even drive anywhere near the parking lot, so at least one store is doing ok.

It sure seems to me like Amazon, UPS, and FedEx are the only places, for the most part, making money.
