Costco deals: Tires and battery tender. Tire Question.

First off, if you need a battery tender and belong to Costco they have a great deal on the Battery Tender Power plus 3 Amp Charger, Item #996821, on Costco.com. Its currently $10 off so $39.99 is now $29.99. It sells for over $41 on Amazon depending on which third party you use. Bridgestone Potenza RE980AS ^Costco has a great deal going on Bridgestone Tires that includes $70 off four tires and another $59.96 off installation. My 2007 S2000 is now residing in Colorado and I ordered a new battery at Costco for it and the battery tender. The rear tires (Potenza RE-71Rs) are at the wear bars and I hate them due to the noise they make so I'm considering get all new RE980AS tires. The RE980AS's are Ultra High Performance All-Season tires, not Extreme Performance Summer tires like the RE-71R's are. Does anyone have the RE980AS tires and what do you think of them? I know a few of us have the RE-71Rs, like Matt. https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.s2k...d847a3012f.jpg |

^Oh, yes, I've already read all the reviews, Emil. I want opinions from people here. I would never consider any tires that TireRack didn't rate highly. |
I ran all seasons on the S once (Yokohama's) and I won't do it again. I've got the Continental ExtremeContact Sports and they are brilliant. Very quiet, far quieter than the RE71's and Dunlop Direzza's that I've also used.

Did you loose too much grip for the summer?

Rick now has all season tires on the S. I will ask him what he selected. I'd say there is a little loss of grip, we get a little chirp when accelerating from a stop, when one might not expect it. Not a huge deal. We like the peace of mind we do get from the all seasons if we end up in the rain,; he doesn't have to worry about the cold temps and switching out to the snow tires too early (car is now daily driver).
The hardest driving he does is tail gunning for Gene at Spring Fling. I don't think he noticed any issues with handling. |

Gene,living in Colorado,I guess,she needs all seasons tires. |
This is what Rick has. No they are not as good as summer tires, but he's not unhappy as they were rated better in the wet and are OK for the cold.
PS the ones you are looking at were not available when he went to all seasons. He likes the rating on the ones you are looking at and would have purchased those had they been an option. Is it just the noise you are looking to eliminate, or are you looking to drive the S in colder temps? https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires...0&autoModClar= |
