Cruisin' the Coast 2017

In other CTC news, festivities may be cut short. Tropical storm Nate looks to be headed this way, and we are in the center of the "cone of uncertainty". This isn't really what we locals would consider a very threatening storm, but it could wash out most of the weekend for cruisers. The mayor of Biloxi today issued a notice asking cruisers to consider leaving early. So far there is no change to the schedule of events. But CTC executives are monitoring the situation and encouraging cruisers to watch for updates on local news and social media.
Yesterday, we registered our eight thousandth car. Today we hit around 8280 as more cruisers who did not pre-register come in for a long (but now possibly shorter) weekend. Regardless, it's yet another in a series of record years that goes back to the year the event was cancelled due to Hurricane Katrina.

800 is really a lot of cars. 8,280 is unreal.

Friday. Even the visitors parking lot at Cruise Central has interesting cars. Consider just two examples...
"It's got a cop motor, a 440 cubic inch plant, it's got cop tires, cop suspensions, cop shocks. It's a model made before catalytic converters so it'll run good on regular gas. What do you say, is it the new Bluesmobile or what?"
When it comes to show cars, details matter. Like beer cans and cigarette butts, a Blues Brothers business card and Jake Elwood's Illinois driver's license on the dash.
Last but not least, the Big Board at Cruise Central with the final registration count. See y'all next year!

No long term impact from Nate. The storm did cut the event a bit short. Sunday morning activities were moved up to Saturday morning and things pretty much shut down by noon. The final Saturday night was lost but this is mostly just folks cruising up and down US 90 along the beach, mostly in Biloxi. Vicari auction and a huge "swap meet" were cut short by a day but none of the week's other participatory events were affected as they were pretty much wound up by Friday..

Great to hear of no significant damage to the area. I had planned to attend, but scheduling got in the way. I did see quite a few "unique" cars on Saturday probably returning from Cruising' the Coast driving through East Tennessee.

If you come down next year please let me know. We can get together for a beer or coffee and talk about old Hondas. If you bring down the shelby OR either of the old S- Hondas, I will buy.

I had intended to bring the Cobra, within a trailer, as I don't think either myself or my wife's eardrums could stand multi hours of side pipes. I'll take you up on the drink offer tof, hopefully the weather/ my schedule cooperates next year.
