D Day 75 year Anniversary

At 0630 75 years ago our brave young men were part of the greatest invasion in the history of the world. Some of these heroes were only in their teens. It was the beginning of the end of end for Nazi Germany and we liberated many grateful countries and death camps on our way to victory. They were the Greatest Generation and rightly so. They won't be around to celebrate the 100th anniversary. Let us remember and pray for these brave soldiers, many who made the ultimate sacrifice so that we could enjoy the freedom we have today. God Bless America!

^ Yeah, that was very cool. One thing I think I mentioned in the thread about our trip to Normandy last summer is that Omaha Beach (where that big silver monument is located) was just like any other beach for the people who were there the day we visited. They were swimming and sunbathing all around. It seemed less than dignified to us, but I'm guessing those people really knew very little about the meaning of that beach. We were a bit shocked by that. Of course the videos you are seeing for the remembrance don't show the beach as we saw it. The other areas, like the American Cemetery and museum, were very moving and a testament to those who fought and died there.

Here is that thread...looks like Page 3 has the pics.

I did not see this Bill. I will be watching it this evening when we return home from dinner. I'm a WWII buff so thank you for sharing. 64 was the year I enlisted in the Navy.

It was the year I turned 9! But I remember hearing about this special for weeks leading up to its airing and then watching with my parents.

CNN reported President Trump’s speech in Normandy was the best of his term.

I recall reading about one of the rangers who scaled the cliffs went out recently with a military group recreating the attack and he CLIMBED the cliffs AGAIN.
He said he saw them going and just could not stop himself so up he went. Amazing story, wish I had the link.

I too have visited the area, beaches, and cemetery. It was all I could do to keep from bawling my eyes out as I visited that beautiful cemetery. So very moving.

Thanks Bill. I hope to watch tomorrow. Tonight I've got a hockey game to watch, that's been taping for the past hour.
