Detroit Strikes Back!

I just had the frame recall done on my Tacoma and while many may say it should of been done right the first time I myself was very impressed with how much money Toyota put into getting my truck right. I think I would be inclined to stick with Toyota and not choose an American make.

I need to change my answer about considering a US brand. Gas milage is going to be an increasing concern (both for the country and for me personally) and I would like to find something with decent milage (28+ highway) capable of an occasional 30 mile round trip pulling a 2300 pound boat/trailer. Right now my outback fits the bill.
I was looking at the new 2010 Equinox and its claimed 32 mpg highway with some interest. Thats for the four cylinder which has a tow rating that comes up short. The V6 claims 24 mpg tops in AWD versions and that probably very exaggerated. I have been reading online in meesage board once again that the milage claims are greatly "enhanced" so GM can sell cars, and I have fallen victim to their inflated claims before. I have always been able to BEAT EPA ratings on an occasional long haul tank in my Honda's and Toyota, but never even get to the EPA rating in any long haul in one of my GM vehicles.
I know Wikipedia is not gospel, but this kind of stuff turns me off to a car maker:
Skepticism of EPA fuel economy ratings
Several road tests have led to skepticism about the front-drive four-cylinder Equinox's EPA fuel economy ratings. After achieving 18.8 mpg-US (8.0 km/l) in a road test, Edmunds InsideLine stated, "...our testing didn't come close to achieving [the EPA's numbers], even though we're usually within 1 mpg of the EPA combined number."[8] Car and Driver recorded another 18 mpg-US (7.7 km/l) figure and noted its "...fuel economy that won’t live up to the 22 mpg-US (9.4 km/l)32 mpg-US (14 km/l) EPA ratings in real-world use..." [9]. Green Car Reports recorded as much as 25.8 mpg-US (11.0 km/l) on a road trip, driving almost exclusively highway miles in "Eco" mode[10]. This is about 20% below the published highway EPA rating. The Truth About Cars have published an editorial suggesting that GM "inflated" the Equinox's fuel economy ratings for public relations purposes.[11]

I just do not see an American vehicle I want. Out last purchase was Debby's 2009 CRV. (I didn't like them until the spare was put inside.) My truck is a 2000 4X4 Chevy and it does everything I have ever asked of it.
I can't afford to track a "
'Vette, so mthe S will rock on. Honda does need a new sport model.
