Wifely unit's 2000 Grand Marquis has not had any major problems yet and I have not seen anything new that I can get really excited about so she will probably get another Grand Marquis when she wears this one out.
Besides that, I get "A" Plan on Ford products.

That's a Mercury, correct? They are dropping the Mercury line. Not sure when. Heard it on the news the other day. How about a Fusion?
Another thought is give her a diesel Fiesta for a grocery getter and use the crew cab F-250 for our highway cruiser. The F-250 has everything except a moonroof and bidet and it gets close to 20MPG on the Highway without a trailer.

I believe Ford has got their act together and is year's ahead of the GM in any way you want to measure it, such as killing off Mercury; much as I loved the old '49 Lead Sled and dreamed I was James Dean. If something were to happen to my current truck I buy another Ford truck in a minute. I think their car lineup deserves a look and test as well. Biggest thing staring them in the face is they will be the target by the how-quickly-can-we-pounce-union. GM is still doing lots of things wrong. IMHO they need to get down to two brands - Chevy and Caddy - and concentrate on leading by example. As for the other company (sorry Lainey) it has not been Detroit based in a long long time but it did move from Germany to Italy..... it's on life-support. Can Alfa save it? I wouldn't bet money on it.

PS- I agree Honda does well on reliability but they have lost their mo-jo. If they don't go back to cars their founder could be proud of they are going to loss more market share.

The CR-Z has had a lukewarm press reception so far. I wonder if it'll ever have a performance variant.

I'd seriously consider replacing the S2000 with a new Mustang GT if something happened to it. The Vettes are also a good option, but I'm not there yet. Ford seems to have been doing better, and GM is catching up. And the japanese cars are pretty vanilla fudge too IMO.
I hope in a few decades American cars will have a positive connotation again.
When chrysler announced the rock play merger with Fiat, I thought--Great. American styling, Italian reliability. What could go wrong?
