Dilemma - First Oil Change

I may as well add to the confusion. I had a 2001 and a 2002. In both cars the dealer refused to change the oil untill the maintenance light came on at about 7500 miles. Same story as stated above by many, they said the car needed to keep the break in oil in for that period of time.
I never used more than a quart in either car duing that time frame and I just added it till the maintenance light came on for the first oil change. Never used any between oil changes after that and never had any problems. Swithed to Mobil 1 at oil change, but that is just choice and I don't believe it makes much difference to the car. The user manual says to stick to conventional oil as the synthetics don't gain anything.
