Discussion and review of Good Movies

I wrote on the first page of this thread, about a movie called Never Look Away we recently saw at the Napa Valley Film Festival. It was excellent! But I wanted to point out, since this is a car site, that movie such as this one that have cars from the 30s and 40s, what is interesting to notice. The vehicles, including even city buses in this movie, are always perfectly clean and without blemish. Take a look at any movie set in the 60s or older. They must rent cars from collectors who have contracts about taking care of their cars. Every one of them look perfect. Start looking for it, it's kind of funny.

Really, wow, now that really surprises me. Every now and again I really enjoy watching a very old movie. Late at night, if I'm having trouble sleeping. In fact, the other night I watched one made in the early 1940s. No great stars but a nice Christmas story line (3 wealthy guys toss their wallets out of their NYC apartment onto the sidewalk with $10 in each; which back then was a lot to see if anyone will return them). What was neat about the movie is 2/3rds of it used a filming technic known as Peppers Ghost, that is still in use today roughly 80 years later.

I'm not one to watch old movies either. Maybe I should. There is not much out there in the "new movie" category that has much interest to me. There are always the "Award Winning" and "Critically Acclaimed" movies we get sucked into watching and then they kind of suck.

I "shop" Netflix.com for the independent movies that get over 3 star ratings from people who rent.

I watch a lot of Nextflix and Amazon Prime. Sometimes moves, mostly series or Amazon or Netflix "originals" Some I've enjoyed, some I don't make it through an episode. We were still paying $5.99/month to get two DVD's /month of more current movies. Cancelled that not long ago. Just not enough interest in what is out there.

I had free Netflix but nothing interested me.

We finally saw The Green Book. It was absolutely great. I would recommend it to everyone.

We went to see The Favourite based on reviews. The +1 liked it for the most part. I really did not. Just thought it was strange.

We saw The Mule yesterday. I liked it but I like all Eastwood movies.

Most of you are two years ahead of me in movies. I hate going to the movies; we've had that discussion before. We just watched "Three Billboards" tonight. I thought it was one of the best movies I have seen in years! Little wonder it got nominated for so much. I love movies that pull me into it and I have no idea what's next.
