Gene, if you read to the bottom of the "light bulb" replacement section, there's a "life cycle cost" analysis that shows a significant net cost SAVING for a typical lamp.....due to the 30,000 hour life of the LEDs Amazing lamp life
OTOH, their Night Light costs $25.... and the "economy" pack of lamps is $125

I like the 8W bulb that puts out the equivalent of a 60W incandescent bulb: http://www.ccrane.com/geobulb/index.aspx
Lat time I looked they were trying to get to the equivalent of a 40W bulb, so things are moving ahead.

For those that haven't shopped them in a while, they make CF that can be used on a dimmer. I've never used them so I couldn't tell how well they work.
Lainey if the light seems harsh to you simply get a different color or temperature light. Whether it is incandescent or CF they all come in different temps which have different quality lights.
I, and most guests to my home, really like the lower temp daylight bulbs. They are a clean, clear light and are not harsh at all. Where I've used the higher temp bulbs the light does seem a little harsh.
I finally broke down and threw away all the soft white bulbs. It was simply too hard to read or distinguish finer details in their light.

I bought some Saturday.
They have a 3 yr warranty. At $13 for two, it's in that annoyance range where you feel obligated to get a replacement.

the lamp over my desk has decided it doesn't like staying lit.
it blinks,it flashes, it dims and brightens.......
now it's out ,
now it's lit.
stupid thing.
have you noticed that a lot of receipts nowadays, fade really badly after a few months?
especially thermal paper.

The solution is to scan the thermal paper receipts when they are new and archive the digital copy. In this way, down the road when the product with that seven year or lifetime warranty fails one can print out a fresh version of the digital image to return the goods.

Yeah, who keeps receipts for light bulbs.
I'll probably give it one more try, then back to the old mercury vapor if this one doesn't last.
