Default FED X Championship

For the golfers on the site. What do you think of this years new rule that there are no bonus strokes for players who have accumulated a lot of points over the course of the season. Scottie Scheffler had the most points by 2000 over the second place player. Scottie had about that many points last year and was -10 at the start of the championship. So why do players accumulate points during the season if they don’t get a handicap at the Championship.

I think they trying to make golf relevant in the face of football.
It's sort of a no win proposition, they don't want good golfers to be able to skip a week coming down the stretch aka phil Mickelson, but they don't want to give one player a virtual guarantee of a win.
They want something reasonable that fans can understand but not hokie.
Maybe the answer is match play. But the top players get to skip some early rounds.

Yeah, Scheffler agreed with the new rule and he had the most to gain so maybe it makes sense. Giving him a -10 advantage would be an almost unsurmountable advantage and now it’s a level playing field. This made playing with McElroy more interesting. 10:00 start today to try and beat the forecasted afternoon storms.

I think the 10 strokes was too much.

Maybe 3 for 1st, 2 for top 10, 1 for top 20.

think other sports…. NASCAR… points get you into the next race, but that race then happens independent of those points. Baseball, football, basketball and hockey…. You get home field advantage and in some cases a first round bye.

all sports…. The best team all year doesn’t always win. The best on the last day does.

I agree. Scheffler doesn’t need any help.

Given our current Fedex driver in the area... and this being the Fed-x championship, I am surprised that everyone is not teeing off on 1 but putting on hole 2 .... I should send them a bill for delivering other peoples packages to the address clearly stated on the label!

LOL. I have nothing more to add to this. Seems to be a common theme.

That is why I prefer UPS. USPS is the worst.

I am pulling for Tommy Fleetwood to win the Championship. He has never won on the PGA Tour after so many second place finishes. He is one of the nicest players on tour and always acknowledges the fans and the fans love him. Scheffler won 5 times this year and 7 times last year including the FED-X Championship. Go Tommy.

I agree with no strokes as a head start. Honestly, I can't think of a better way to decide a champion. There may be one, but I can't come up with it.
