Thank you, Jim.
I can't believe a thread about bird feeding has been so successful in a car forum.
A few of my photo pals on FB are getting into photographing and feeding the birds. I have shared some of the info posted here with them.

Him and my sister have really gotten into bird watching over the last few years, and he has one heck of a lens on his camera......
But then, the birds aren't in his backyard, but out in woods and parks.

Talented squirrels!!
I think Mike/loves to drive was the one who suggested leaving the plastic on the top side of a suet cage/feeder, making the suet only accessible for the clinging birds. It does work. I think it will keep the grackles and starlings away from the suet. The squirrels do manage to "dine" a bit. But obviously the woodpecker has no issue. Lousy cropped pic, but you get the idea.

We have almost no birds! Matt was filling the feeders every other day but now just the suet is gone. We have a pair of blue jays and several woodpeckers but that is it!
Any help is welcome!
