Feeding the Birds

We have a zillion Goldfinch that fill up three hanging feeders, one which is only a few feet away from the kitchen table.

We have numerous House Finches from their native habitats of deserts, grassland, and open woods. The American Goldfinch is an anomaly where I live, other areas of Colorado see them frequently - I’m guessing it’s the vast areas of open prairie outside of my neighborhood that keeps them at bay -or- could it be my birdseed selection?

Orioles and Blue Birds are showing up. Hummingbirds are expected next week. Lots of Gold Finches, but we have them all winter, just not wearing their spring colors. I'm keeping an eye out for the Rose Breasted Grosbeak, but haven't seen him yet.

We had a Grosbeak eating an orange along side a Oriole this morning. Never saw one on a organge before.

5-6-2019. Woo hoo! I just saw my first hummer! I was putting out mealworms in an old feeder and hulless seeds in a new feeder, when I heard him behind me.

Got a lesson on birds and bees today. Romance is not on their "to do" list. Saw the ducks doing their thing, and man it was violent. Two ducks on one, they practically drowned the female. I felt bad for her....Nature is pretty amazing. Natural Geographic may be calling me.

Here I thought the phrase "I don't give a flying f%#k" was for the birds. Apparently not!
