Hey, I might check that out on my trip from Penn Yan down to DE if I go via 81 and have time.

Have a look at the beautiful Cornell campus. The oars may be practicing on Lake Cayuga for the Jun. 2 - 4, 2017 IRA National Championship in Sacramento, CA.
Go Cornell!

Ithaca is nestled in a beautiful part of a beautiful region. "High above Cayuga's Waters..."

I've lived, went to school at Cornell, worked, and stayed in Tompkins County (Ithaca area) nearly all my life. It's a great place to live once most of the students leave after Memorial Day.
The "Commons" of downtown Ithaca is worth the trip to see the freak show. "Nothing stranger than people" is the mantra.
The parks and waterfalls are fantastic. There's a lot to see, but not a lot to do, if that makes sense.
I like Tof's advice as to the Glen and Penn Yan area. I enjoy the trips that way and it's only 40 minutes or so for me, but always worth that drive. So is the trip to Skaneateles as that town has great restaurants in the area, cool shopping with interesting stuff, and beautiful waterfront (not beaches) that are public without being too crowded.
Have fun.

We go back about once a year, and still have friends there from the 7 years spent there 1964-71 One time, I even had a drink with a Texan in a SPA S2000 in Collegetown

Thanks all for the info and advice...
Stopped in Corning on the way up, arrived in WG mid-afternoon. Settled in, had some dinner and just drove a little bit around.
Friday did the wineries on the West side of Seneca Lake, then a visit to WGSP before a few more wineries. Took a very small hike due to timing.
Saturday did the east side, plus some falls near Ithaca. Ended up in Montour Falls then back to WG
Today was raining, so we bypassed any hiking and had breakfast then headed home. Stopped at some famous hot dog place in Allentown - Yocco's - eh, ok - nothing more. Got back mid-afternoon here. 4+ hours in the S in pretty bad rain is no easy task. Good news - with the top up, there's just enough extra storage in the well to eliminate shipping clothes home (since the wine had to stay in the car).
Some photos over in the photo thread.
