Foods of our youth
This one topic that hasn't been raised yet; or if so, it got by me. What made me think of it is old fashion German ring Balogna. My wife brought some home today from the meat store. I can't stop eating it. I've been thinking about it for months and even made several trips to the store but they discontinued making it over the holidays, etc. I love this stuff and thought I could only find it in PA until I discovered a store in my hometown that makes it like the stuff I knew when I was growing up. It's just something that's always been special to me. I can remember when my dad would bring it home when I was young. It tasted better than candy back then, and even today, I'd rather have it than a steak or lobster (both of which I really like). Weird. How about you........ is there something you got hooked on as a kid?

Peanut butter n' Fluff sandwiches, scooter pies. My Mom used to make us pastina with butter and I used to love that and whenever I had pasta at a restaraunt I always used to ask to have mine with butter instead of sauce.

Here's something I used to love as a kid, but haven't touched in 30 years: Fish sticks. My kids love the chicken equivalent, "nuggets" which are similarly processed, but have never tried fish sticks. The only times I'll eat either now is when the chicken is battered real chicken breast, or I'm eating and loving real fish and chips.
Another food I wouldn't touch with a ten foot pole is Chef Boyardee ravioli. Man I loved that stuff when I was a kid. Used to eat a whole can by myself for a snack after school. Yecch!

Thats funny. Fish sticks. I know it's not true but it seems like we had them every Friday nite for ever. I hated them. I don't know how many times I just had to go to the bathroom during those fish stick special dinners!

My mom used to bring home little cocktail salamis. Each one individually wrapped. They were about 2 to three inches long and were everything a regular salami was except bite size. I used to love them, especially when she'd get the fresh ones from the butcher shop instead of the supermarket version. I haven't seen them in years.

Can't remember anything I loved, but do remember something I HATED. Lentils. During lent. I still don't know WTF these things are. My brother called them Fried Rosary Beads. They're horrible. During Lent my kids gets cheese pizzas. My, how times have changed.

Space Food Sticks!
Anybody remember them? They hit the market during the heyday of the Apollo program. Chewy dehydrated-tasting semi-chocolate stuff...they were a lunchbox standby.
Now they're lost in the mists of junk food history.
