GHW Bush was always a valuable member of the Houston area community. I had a couple of great conversations with him; also as Acting Dean of Humanities I sat next to him on the podium and we chatted when he gave the commencement address at Rice University in 2000. He was an humble, down to earth, genuine mensch; and wonderful to talk to. I will always admire him!
He will be missed! RIP.

There was a time when Presidents acted presidentially. Whether or not you agreed with George H W Bush's politics ( I didn't), there is no denying that he acted with dignity, grace, and class. He was a man of great character. I am hoping that we will see more politicians like him in the future. I'm not sure we will.

I watched just bits and pieces of the service (I was at work). I was able to watch George W's speech. It was lovely, and moving and personal. He did a wonderful job. I felt his grief. Many of us have been there with the loss of parents and loved ones.

I read that there was a man from Kuwait, who had been taken prisoner when Sadaams forces invaded until the coalition saved him., who went to the funeral and waited 5 hours in line to get to the casket to say thank you. That also was tear inducing!

Yeah, that one was a tear jerker. Being very close to my father, I think it struck a nerve for me as well. I have a lot of respect for him and can only imagine how what will be for me when the time comes. But it was a very nice eulogy.

I do wonder about the reasons/need that some folks have/feel to stand in line for hours to pay respects. I've never felt such strong emotion to the passing of a public figure that I would stand in line for hours, but I certainly get what the man from Kuwait would feel the need to do so.
