Good-bye Olds

Glad that you posted this notice, Dave! My Dad mostly was a Mopar guy, but I remember a lot of Oldsmobiles.
My spinster aunt had a ~50 Super 88 Coupe....dark green, and an uncle had a '53 Rocket 88 (was it a 2 dr hardtop?). One of my paper route customers had a 57 Holiday 88 2 dr hardtop, which I thought was way with tri-tone color scheme and tri-part rear window.
Funny how I can picture the Olds 'look' for every year from 1955 to 1960, but then the memory fades The rear of the 1960 looked like the deck of an aircraft carrier .........f*uuuuugly

Like many of you my mental snapshots of Olds are all from the mid-50s to early-60s.... then it becames a blur. My fondest memory of what a great car it once was is taking one from near Paris to upper Denmark. Two crazy GI's off to stay with two crazy Danish gals.... stories I'll not put to print but I will say that somehow we lived, even though we actually drove through the border checkpoint without stopping. I can still see the guard running out of the guard house with a machine gun. We never intended to do this - - we were tired & beat & driving home way too fast - - but at that point, it was no time to stop and try to explain it. Thank God that Olds could move because we had it at the peg for sometime after that! Rest in peace, Olds.

You have mentioned some of the more memorable oldsmobiles. Some of my favorites.
The 1963 aluminum engined Jetfire with turbocharger.
The 1964 Jetstar V8s.
The Toranado begining in 1966.
All 442s.
The classic rear drive V8 Cutlass of the early 70s.

Owned three Oldsmobiles, a 1949 76(?) 6 cylinder convertible, a 1950 88 convertible and the most memorible, a 1950 88 business coupe with stick. You just didn't find 1950 business coupes, much less with a stick. Had it cleaned up and painted fathom blue, a '58 Chevy color.
I recall when a friend swapped cars with me for a day. He had a 1957 Olds coupe with stick and tri-power. I still remember that. I remember affectionately the Oldsmobiles from 1949 to 1957. I've blocked out the 1958's onward.........

When I was growing up, there was a group of guys that had some great cars. I still remember then all (but not the years) and one of the best was the 442 olds.
442 (white)
RoadRunner (green)
Chevelle (Blue)
Charger (Orange)
Cuda (can't remember that one)
