Weird Patty.
I think a similar thing happens when it starts out and doesn't know where you are.
Until it gets a connection, it thinks it is where ever it was last time it was turned on.

what's the old saying - you can't fix stupid
Val and Lainey know just how much I love GPS. My son is using it for their FL Chrismas vacation. I miss it already. NOT.
Patty, I had the same experience. If you do not clear out your prior entry it wants to take you there before anywhere else. As Lainey said, lesson learned.
Personally I wouldn't buy another Garmin, there are better ones out there. And you can't beat an old fasion map.

Couldn't find my way out of a paper bag without a gps. HOWEVER, in your defense, Dave, sadly those gps systems pretty much get you where you want to go (except the time it took us through backyards in New Mexico), but you have no idea how you got there and how to get back without the gps . I've given gps systems as gifts to all my kids and love the idea of being able to travel anywhere without concern. I would not go down a gravel road or dirt road, etc. and use the optional routes to get where I want to go. I've always used the travel options that use preferred highways, etc. in my units. Having used Magellan and Garmin, I would prefer the Garmin.

I think it would be fun to build a little artificial intelligence into them....
about the third time you missed a turn, it could get real annoyed at you and say " hey dummy, your not listening to me are you?"
"why are you going this way?"
"No it was that turn back there"
"why are you driving so fast?
They could call it the Garmin Spouse.

I got sent via a "deliverance" experience in western WV last Fall. I was in less than 5 mph territory before my stubborness relented and I turned around. Seriously, there were people living back in there.

We got hopelessly lost. We couldn't match up the roads we were finding with the roads on the map. We finally decided to just keep heading north. According to the map we would eventually reach a state highway, so we would just keep turning north until we found pavement. We eventually found a paved road, but there were no signs identifying it as the highway we were looking for. We thought we must be on a side street and that the highway must be close by, but we couldn't find it.
It was while looking for the highway that I noticed the topo map's legend said it was based on data from the 1950s. We later discovered that we were on what had once been state highway, but the highway had been rerouted many miles to the north.

probably the single most valuable thing a GPS does is tell you where you are.
getting where you're going is secondary after that.
