Honda's 1.5L turbo problems

My son is looking at getting a new CR-V (that's all he's owned for 19 years). He says that the base model (LX) still has the 2.4 liter K motor. He'll add a roof rack, heated steering wheel and cargo accessories and then add some aftermarket features. He's got 290,000 miles on his current '08 CR-V. He wants another K motor.

“If an owner repeats that short-drive/cold-weather cycle multiple days in a row, the level of unburned fuel in the oil can incrementally increase each time, raising the oil level on the dipstick and, over the long term, potentially leading to misfires and other engine symptoms,” Martin says.

my 2016 civic was producing oil every day I drove it, so much so I had to consider draining oil between oil change intervals as the level would grow well beyond the H mark. My oil was always very dark quickly after an oil change. I had the warranty fix for the issue but that did nothing. Honda will tell you the issue is with cold weather driving conditions, and short distance driving. Hello Honda ? , Id say 150 million people in North America drive in those kinds of conditions. When they test an engine design do they not notice these issues, it is so easy to spot, my car would show issues within 2 weeks of an oil change, it was so obvious. Do they not send cars to northern countries for cold weather testing anymore, I'm sure even the worst auto manufacturers still do this. How can the engineers miss this issue when developing an engine like this when other manufacturers have experienced this in the past with DI engines, is it not on their development radar ?
I sold the car in favour of a new Subaru WRX, after 3000 miles my oil is still perfect despite it being a DI engine too. I have not had any issues with the Subaru. The Civic could not compare. One concern I had with a possible Civic Type r purchase was the same type of motor in it with potentially the same issues as my other Civic, so I went with the Subaru.
