Normally 10% to 30% depending on how we are taken care of by the waitress or waiter.

When our 3 children were all very young (3-7 years) we would often leave tips in the 25% to 50% range, based upon how they dealt with being terrorized by our kids, and how much food was on the floor when we left.

As a general rule on meals I probably tip around 20%. Less for bad service and far more for excellent service (~100% on an exemplary steak dinner for my birthday a couple years ago).

For a haircut, taxi driver (mostly shorter trips), bellman at a hotel...usually $3-5 as a ballpark.
