Default Hurricane Irma

Not to take away from Harvey's impact, but we need to keep an eye on another powerful storm - Irma. I just saw a report on Weather Channel that compared Irma to another storm - Donna from 1960. Irma has the same characteristics today that Donna did at the same point in time. That storm devastated Naples and other nearby areas, then turned northeast and devastated the southeastern US on up to NE. That scenario does not sound good at all.

It does not look as it Irma will play nice! My sister in SC (not far from Darlene) is thinking about heading to my nieces home in NC if the weather reports do not improve.

Stay safe, Darlene and our pals to the south!

We are in Florida now and we're suppose to go to my sisters in Ft Myers on Saturday. That has changed now. We may have to bug out and head north sooner than we wanted.

Wow, Scooterboy, yeah it might be a good idea to leave earlier than planned.

I hope your sister will be safe.

My sister in Melbourne has lots and lots of bottled water. She says you can't get water now.

Anyone thinking about leaving Florida should not delay. I75, I95, and the turnpike may get pretty jammed up by late this week. If you head out later this week pack water and some munchies and get gas when and where you can. Be prepared for a 24 hour drive up to I-10. It may not be that bad but best to be prepared. Ask Jim about the evacuation of Houston for Rita.

Here's hoping a nice cold front moves in and pushes Irma's eye east of Florida. And here's hoping she continues her brisk pace wherever she goes, currently around 14 MPH.

WOW, 185 mph winds. If it hits the U.S. it will be the only time in history 2 Cat 4 hurricanes hit the U.S. We leave for Bermuda on 9/17 for our big 50th anniversary. I hope Irma is outta here by then and no more coming for a while after her. We don't want to spend our 50th in the Atlantic wearing life jackets.

I seem to recall reading that there is another hurricane forming right behind Irma. Jose is the name, I think.
