I have a buddy who moved into Tampa/ St Pete last year.
If it follows the current long range model it will go up the western Fla coast.
All those barrier islands will get hammered.
Incidentally Irma is now the strongest recorded open water hurricane in the Atlantic ever.
it's also fricking huge at over 400 miles across and it has a fair amount of open water to strengthen over.

Sigh. Not wanting another nasty weather event to occur in the US! We won't know until probably Sunday if we are in the direct path. Keeping an eye on the National Hurricane Center's updates and trying not to watch all the news and weather channel reports on doom/disaster and terribleness. Just trying to be prepared for whatever comes our way. There is absolutely no panic in my neighborhood as of yet, but we've pretty much learned to be as ready as we can be.

Predicted point where Irma turns north has moved east a little since yesterday. Great news for us on the Gulf but also good news for Florida. The further east the eye is the better, as less of the state will be exposed to the highest winds of the storm's northeast quadrant. Keep going east! Maybe it will turn before Miami and spare the Keys and most of Florida the worst of the storm.
To all our friends in Florida, stay safe.

It just depends on how far east it turns, Tof. It could hit the SC coast if it skirts Florida. I certainly do not want Florida to suffer and hope it peters out and spares us all. I'm not thinking that is going to happen. I have people coming tomorrow to move all my outdoor furniture and lawn stuff. Friday my housekeepers will move some stuff in the garage so I can bring the jeep in and I'm prepping for evacuation. If it comes my way at more than a Cat 1 I plan to caravan with my daughter to Virginia and enjoy the deluge from a Holiday Inn Select. I'm just hoping we can get the H out of here before mandatory evac orders are issued so I don't have to travel south to go north. My lawn care guy told me today if he lived where I live he'd already be gone. LOL He worries (as do I) about the trees all around my house.
