IMSA Daytona 24 Hour

WHAT an insane race this year. Starting with the bad break super-human hero Alex Zanardi got when he first tried to engage the steering wheel. Then the Corvette pit screw up and the later the serious off track in the wet. And all that RAIN . . . I love watching rain racing, the great equalizer, where real talent shines - like Alonso and Jordan Taylor. But, I have to say that was too much rain even for me. It was clear Ganassi's Ford's never were in the game due the BOP (added weight and reduced power) and yet they managed to get in lead only to be rear-ended. I loved seeing Bromos Porsche colors on the track and being competitive. So many yellow flags and red flags during the monsoon race! People will be discussing that race for a long time. Penske's Acura were impressive in the dry but not so much in the rain. And then what about Mazda - Oh My - all that testing; well at least they did break the lap record after 20 some years. And contgrates to BMW for a deserved win in the M8.

I watched lot of it, maybe too much, and felt that they let the race run in conditions that were clearly too severe. When you have a 15 minute period where more than five cars leave the track for no other reason other than loss of grip while taking a "wet line", you've gone too far.

I was glad to see how well the ladies did with the Acura in GTD.

Watched the first 9 hours (NBCSN, the App then back), then picked it back up at 1000 Sunday with the insanity of rain racing.

I stayed up long enough to see both Mazda's bow out. What a way to bow out. At least the #55 car got back into the race for awhile, before finally retiring.

Joey Hand's accident in the rain was sad to see. Great driver. Should have made it to the last Red Flag. Happy to see the Rahal/Letterman #25 win and Alex Zanardi get some serious seat time (no pun intended - re-watched the German Grand Prix that caused it all).

Your stomach is sturdier than is mine. Breaks my heart.
