paS2K- the S should cost me @ $600 when I renew this month with AARP- Hartford. Part of the low cost is because it's "7500mi or less per year", but the coverage is adequate: $500 deductible collision w. $250,000/ $500,000/ $100,000 liability, etc.. That is 1/2 what State Farm was charging and I was happy with them. I do have 2 cars and the house insured with them. Rates are sure all over the place. What got me looking into AARP was when my 30yr. old son gets a new Boxster and his State Farm rates are the same as mine!

I've seen some interesting discussion about dropping the liability for the winter, but no real answer. In Ohio, they randomly mail out "proof of insurance" requests and no one was able to definitely answer whether you could get by one of those. Some thought that if you dropped the insurance, you'd have to surrender the plates to be safe, and buy new plates in the spring.
I have State Farm and I suspend mine in the winter and save alot. I do keep...oh heck...can't remember the name of it...coverage...the one where if the ladder falls on it, or it gets stolen out of a locked garage , I'm covered. I would HIGHLY recommend pursuing this if you store your S in the winter. Saves a lot of coin.

Yes, The amount of insurance makes all the difference. Ours is $500,000 liability - combined limit, 1,000 deductible and the rate is $970/ 6 months. We have an additional million dollar umbrella which is only $225 a year.

Home / business owners really need to be careful to cover the risk of driving.

I have a perfect record as does my husband - but we have 2 kids on our policy too ( not perfect, and one 23, one is 19) and their risk is combined in the price even tho they do not drive my S.

So another cost savings to look forward to when they are emancipated! God kids are expensive! Young parents think babies are expensive and hard to care for - hah!

I live in NJ the land of high ins. costs (highest in the nation).
I pay $671 for 6 months. The car is classified as pleasure use only. I have $1K ded. with no threshold (legal term for I have retained all rights to sue. married to a lawyer). Coverage is 250/500K. And I agree with Ratgirl on the umbrella, if you are a professional or business owner. Not old enough for AARP. (close but not quite yet)

I've been with USAA for over 30 years, and whenever I get a call from an insurance company to give me a free quote, they back off and quit when I tell them I'm with USAA. I've also gotten some "redistribution" checks some years, and have this thing called a subscribers savings account (?) that has about $5K in it. So, annual premiums are somewhat deceiving. At any rate, I'm paying $397.20 for six month on the s2k, multi-car/more vehicles than drivers/etc. discounts. That's for 100k/300k BI, 50K PD, 5K medical, UM (same), and Comp/Coll with 1K ded. FWIW, another voice heard from.

Paying $960/yr with State Farm. Qualify for all the discounts. The S runs about the same as our GMC Envoy.

I finally decided to face the inevitable bad news and call my present insurance company (American Family) for a quote on my soon-to-arrive 2004 S. I was somewhat pleasantly surprised to learn that I will be paying $875/year for the S, about the same as my 2002 RAV4, with $500 deductible and 100/300 coverage. I must admit to having an accident and a speeder on my record in the last 3 years, so I expected much worse! I am 50, married, one 6 y.o. at home. Also a house, another car and an umbrella policy with AmFam.

I am 45 with a spotless record since 16. I have AAA in California. I pay a little under $900/yr for my S because it is my second car and not my daily driver. My pickup (daily driver) with liability only is about $400/yr. I have the highest coverage $1,000,000 and lowest deductible $500. I do get a discount for multiple policies. Home insured with AAA also.
My galfriend just got a quote from Metlife.com for full coverage on her 2002 Accord for under $800/yr for the same coverage as AAA $1200/yr. Sounds good but they didn't offer the limits that I need. If you own a home in California, $500,000 doesn't cut it. I found that owning a beater with liability only makes sense in that your S is dropped to second car status which translates to less premium for the performance car. Since I don't drive my S more than 6,000 miles a year, I get the lowered premium and really appreciate it when I do drive it. My pickup feels like a boat compared to the S.
