My brother-in-law runs a "honey wagon" pumping out the pits under hog containment buildings.
Ugh! I was just thinking that sometimes after taking core samples in lakes I come home soggy, sweaty, and muddy, with a malodorous methane scent clinging to my nostrils, but that job's gotta take the prize.

My son had a summer job when he was in college working for the mosquito control section of the state Natural Resources Dept. His job was to go out into the marshes, with no repellent, and count how many mosquitoes landed on his bare arms within a certain amount of time. He said it wasn't too bad, but then, he was young and the money was good!

I would hate to work for Animal Control and have to go scoop up road kill.

I was a housekeeping aide, in Encino and St. Joseph's (Burbank) Hospitals, while in college. It wasn't too bad most of the time. Saw some people die, and cleaned up some barf and the runs, but usually it was just boring.

I worked with an electrician that did that for a "side job". He said they paid him a dollar a foot to go up and replace bulbs. That was 30 years ago. I wonder what they pay now.
At my company it's double time. Definitely not worth it at 1200 feet in the rain. They pay someone to replace the anti collision beacons but we have to run the cables, mount antennas, etc....

Strangely, they pay me nothing extra for landing on or taking off from an aircraft carrier strapped into a plane with no windows, facing backwards

I wouldn't want to go into the homes and treat some of the patients our visit staff see. Some of these folks and the conditions they live in are just pitiful.

The worst job I had was working for the city the summer I was 15. I mostly mowed the cemetery and mowed and lined baseball and softball fields but I was first alternate when someone laid out on the one truck garbage crew. That stuff tends to get really ripe in July and August.

I'm told it's highly illegal to work minors on garbage trucks but when it came down to my boss or me he didn't seem to mind breaking the law.

I wouldn't want to do my son's job: Army Drill Sargeant, but he loves it.

Oh, you know you'd love to scream, "drop and give me 20!" Or can they do that anymore?

Mike, in his retirement, my Dad mowed lawn in the cemetery. He didn't mind the job at all, until one day he fell into an open grave.

He had a great sense of humor. While he was at the ER, the staff called my sister who was a nurse in the hospital. He told her he was "trying the grave on for size."

No garbage truck duty....thankfully.

^^ Oh, yes! They can still do that...and a lot more! They figure out ways of getting around the silly "PC" stuff, and they're not sugar-coating the training.

My life as a Drill Sargeant ended when all the boys finally moved out. I'm a lot easier on the grand kids.

As it should be. Although, I had a rough day with our little guy this weekend. Neither of us had enough sleep Friday night.

He was VERY cranky on Saturday. At one point he said "I want my Mommy." I replied "I want her too."

I was glad to give up the babysitting job on Saturday afternoon and send him home, but I'll be happy to do it again another day.

I'm trying to think of another job I would not want.....
