I'm with Rob - I don't feel like I'm driving unless I'm shifting. It is such a blast.

For me, sitting in traffic, leg extended, clutch in, moving like a snail, barely getting into second gear, only to stop again, takes all the fun factor out of driving a stick shift, and makes the sitting more unpleasant than if driving an automatic.

I'd guess most of Vintage's children know how to drive a manual...mine does.

So who remember the days before bucket seats, you wanted your girl close with your arm around her. She did the 4 on the floor. Took two drive. Good days. Good nights.

Not me. I had an automatic with a big front or back seat. Options!

I use the paddles or the gear shift knob in the SL to downshift to slow down, and in traffic. Best of both worlds I guess, automatic when I want it, shift when I want it, although Rob would say I'm cheating without a clutch to push.

You're absolutely right, I would say that. If it doesn't have a clutch, its not a manual transmission.

I taught my daughter to drive a manual in Casablanca Morocco, during Ramadan. We drove through the center of town in our Renault, not a sole on the street. I own 3 cars, all with manual transmissions.
