Default MG's at the Glen

I thought I would share a video that just came out if anyone is interested in old MGs, Glen history, or vintage racing. It covers the 1994 Collier Cup (all MG) racing event. For me it was like a step back in time (25 years). I knew just about every person in the video. I was an occassional pit crew member for Joe Tierno from NY (the green 029). My son and I drove out from Michigan in my red 1960 MGA.

Thanks for the clip, I have a certain bond to MGs.

First "sports car" I ever went in was my aunt's MGB roadster in Brisbane, Australia, in 1983. There was actually three of us in the car (my father, my sister and me) so I got to sit on the folded-down hood. No idea how that was legal but I was 9 years old at the time so probably soft enough to bounce off things in an accident.

Then there was a beautiful '59 MGA owned by an old girlfiriend's father. Strangely he never allowed me behind the wheel but he did take me for a drive one day. He also took be out in his '74 350SL and his Bentley 4.5 litre. He was a great guy with great taste in cars, just a shame the girlfriend was a sociopath.

And finally, my father's chrome-bumper MGB GT, which is the only one I actually got to drive. It was hilariously slippery (my father had "upgraded" a few parts) but great fun.

Cool video. I remember Chris Economaki from his syndicated radio show, Sport of Speed, which we carried on WFLR, (Finger Lakes Radio) out of Dundee while I worked there part time during my high school years. The village of Watkins Glen may have lacked the fine amenities F1 came to expect of its hosts but it is one of the prettiest racing venues around.
