make sure hospital has the protocol of the surgeon signing the knee he's going to work on while your still conscious in pre-op.
you write in sharpie on the other knee " no dummy, the other side."
back in my teens, prior to my first knee job, I printed up a mailing label with
the surgical team loved it and left it on after scrub and prep.

Thanks Gene. It's been a bit of a WILD ride for the past week and a half. I am making progress, knee replacement is a bit of a difficult procedure. Initially the pain was very tough and the pain pills were flowing. The biggest problem that I had was the pain pills. They made me very ill, and as of yesterday, I have ceased them. The pain is tolerable, but the narcotics were not. They had me to the point that was refusing to talk to well wishers and sleeping 14 hrs a day, badly.
That said I am going to PT and getting a bit better. Walker, gone, cane about 90% time but changing to unaided walking. That said, it still looks like another 4 weeks of PT and hopefully I will be on my way back.
It's been tough, but I am still glad that I did not wait.
Thanks for asking.

Hang in there Ken. A good friend had this procedure done about 10 weeks ago and she is doing great. It was tough for a few weeks but she did the PT and did not push her recovery.

Your story is pretty typical, Ken. I'm glad you dumped the pain meds. Hang in there.
