Congratulations, Val and to the newlyweds! I thought they were getting married in Lynchburg? At least you will see them soon.
Apparently the USA needed the groom on base this morning. They're really anxious to get all their "stuff" moved out of Lora's apartment here so she can get out of it before accruing another month's rent, so they decided to tie the knot in Newport News before heading back here. They're giddy with excitement apparently since they both just telephoned again to let us know they're on their way here. I'm really happy for the two of them. They are a very cute couple, very much alike, enjoy the same activities and seem to understand this is a lifetime commitment. My last chick has now left the nest and I can move outta town with a clear conscience. The other kids all live in other towns and they'll have our addy, phone # and email address. I look forward to their visits and subsequent departures . We both really, really like this guy and plan to be very supportive and hopefully very close to them.

Wow, great news. My wife married an airman about 38 years ago and that worked out pretty well.

Yes, congratulations to the groom and best wishes to your daughter.
tof, you have certainly been quite eloquent today. I love it. I plan to show this thread to the newlyweds.

Val, congrats to you an achieving empty-nester status. I figure if we get both of the boys out with neither having served prison time we've done our job. (One down and one real close! )

As to the Congratulations and Best Wishes...It always disturbed me slightly. It's like saying "Nice catch, you really reached on this one" to the groom and "Good luck with that one" to the bride.

One more bit of eloquence ( ) to the happy couple should they read this:

"Women marry thinking their husbands will change. Men marry thinking their wives won't. They are both wrong." -author unknown

But trust me... ... as one who has enjoyed and endured and persevered almost 40 years of marriage to the same ever changing woman, I have enjoyed the journey through all the joys and tears and would not trade my married life for anything. Congratulations and best wishes for a long and happy life together.

(Val, you should know by now when anybody says the least kind thing about a post of mine they are repaid ten times over.)

We celebrated our 41st last Sunday and I wouldn't change a thing. I wish them the same.
