Default My search for a new daily driver

Having gotten inspiration from Legal Bill's thread, I'm reaching out to everyone for an opinion on which daily driver I should get next.

I have had a great deal of trouble with my BMW. I thought the latest problem was solved, but this weekend it reared it's ugly head again. I've had enough. As soon as I can sell the BMW I'm going to and now I'm starting my search for a replacement. Here's what I'm looking for:

1. The car must have a manual transmission.
2. The car should have 4 seats.
3. It would be nice to have 4 doors, but its not critical.
4. I want a navi, but again, it's not critical.
5. I prefer 4 cylinder, naturally aspirated engines, but I'll buy a turbo engine if I have to.
6. The lighter the car the better. I prefer a car under 3,000 lbs but will buy slightly heavier if necessary.
7. I like small cars. In my opinion anything bigger than a Civic is too big.
8. I don't want to spend more than $35,000.

So far the cars that I have in mind are (not necessarily in any order:

1. 2017 Honda Civic Si when it comes out.
2. 2017 Subaru WRX
3. 2017 Subaru BRZ
4. 2017 Mazda Miata

I know the last two are 2 door, 2 seat cars, but I really like them.

Anyway, I'm probably going to start test driving next week. Any suggestions?

Rob, none of your parameters fit what I drive so I'll just say good luck.
Will you consider leasing if you will use the car in your business? I don't have to tell you why it's hugely better, for tax purposes, to lease a business car.

I am going to consider leasing for a number of reasons, one of which is the tax benefit. I'll have to see what kind of deal I can make when I sit down to negotiate.

I'm leaning in that direction too. I had a 2006 Si and loved it. I gave it to Adam and he now has 170,000 miles on it.

Unfortunately, the 2017 Si isn't out yet so I don't know much about it. We'll have to wait to see.

Two I definitely would want to test:

Ford Focus RS (manual, 350hp!, 4-door, all wheel drive, $36k)

VW Golf R (manual, 292 hp, turbo 4-cylinder, 4-door, $37k)

Two others but likely too small:

Mini Cooper Works Hardtop (manual, 228 hp, 2-door, $36k)

Fiat 500 Abarth (5-speed manual, 2512 pounds, 2-door, $23k)

After owning a 2008 Civic SI I would have to wait for the SI. There is no assurance that the '17 will be as good as in the past but I would have to wait and see.

I did check out the '17 Miata at the Cleveland Auto Show and it was pretty nice. There is a Fiat 124 sitting in front of the local dealer and it looks sharp from a distance.

Whatever you choose, good luck!!
