Default NE people, I could use your help

The girlfriend will be in Washington around the middle of OCT for EXIT realty national convention and I will driving up in the SLK to join her for the last night formal gala. After that we plan to spend 3-4 days in the New England area, maybe Boston or someplace, maybe a nice B&B.

what can you recommend and where would you go and visit during those few days, please also think about travel time? I want this to be relaxing and enjoyable for her, maybe something around a nice harbor town for one night,

Thanks

We were at a wedding south of Boston in May and enjoyed our day trips to Fall River. Great food there too. Also visit the Lizzie Borden house, it was a kick.

Sounds like you are not spending much time in DC. If I'm wrong, PM me and perhaps we can get together for a drink or something.

Be aware that on Columbus day weekend there is a road race in town The Reebok Boston 10K for Women. but it sounds like you're after that date.
It depends on how touristy you want to get.
Faneuil Hall / Quincy market is interesting. Along with the rest of the waterfront.
Concord/ Lexington site of the first revolutionary battle.
October starts to get cold out on the water but a whale watch is still an option.
heading a little north, the foliage will be starting.

Let me know if you're planning on any time around the New York metro area.

You might also want to check out the Lake Champlain/Burlington, VT area. Beautiful country-side and Burlington is a hidden gem of a city.

I'm a MA native born in Boston but grew up on the north shore. While the historic areas of Beantown, like Faneuil Hall, the waterfront (Long Wharf and park), historic walk, USS Constitution and the like are great, my warm body would be on the southern Maine coast in mid-October; maybe Kennebunkport. I would drown myself in seafood, tour the coastline, tour the fall foliage colors in the White Mountains to the northwest in Woodstock or Conway and then drown myself in seafood again.

If you opt for Boston, consider a day trip to Salem, Marblehead and Rockport on the north shore. If you do that, you might try one of my favorite little-known restaurants on Route 1A in Revere; The Wharf at the Marina. Their seared scallops in three-cheese risotto is outstanding.
