We were looking to replace our REAR door with a plain jane door with full height window.
$1,500 from Home Depot installed.
Gilky Windows who put in all new windows last year... wanted $2,100....
Old door is staying for a bit!

Our front door has seen better days.
After surviving two families of teenage boys, well it didn't really survive.
So we've been searching for a replacement.
We want to be careful to not get silly with the budget but also maintain the character of the house and maintain it's value.
One of the options we explored was replacement by Anderson.
The primary reason we went to their showroom was to see about how the Anderson doors were constructed, et cetera.
We discovered they don;t really have much in teh showroom and come to your house.
So we have our fairly standard front door with sidelight windows and a transom window.
So guy shows up does the shpeel, very professional. product is suitable. I kind would like real wood but the fiberglass wasn't really bad.
OK finally get to price... including labor, permits( not needed), disposal, blah blah blah
$21k but right now there are several applicable discounts which drops it to only $15,600.
for a fiberglass door. not hand lacquered Hawaiian kona, or old growth virgin mahogany with mother of pearl inlay but fiberglass.
and so the search continues.

Did that quote also include a new man or she cave?

Anderson: You won't find a better door, and you won't pay more!

We had a custom front door made for our house; it was designed when the house was designed. 20 years ago the cost for the door was >$5K. Two piece door, rounded on top, bisected, with single glass panels. Powder coated white aluminum. 8' tall at the apex. I protested at the time but was overridden by the builder (a good friend) the architect and of course my wife. I can look back now and see it was the correct decision. Absolutely love them and would do it again. Maintenance free. (Unless you count cleaning the windows of dog nose prints)

Same here. We have the original front door when the house was built. And it only gets opened when UPS leaves something on the front porch or some kid is trying sell something so he can go somewhere in a school project. Otherwise, friends, etc. use our two other doors.
